🎃 Sirdar Trick or Treat CAL - Week 2: Building Blocks & Spooky Foundations

🎃 Sirdar Trick or Treat CAL - Week 2: Building Blocks & Spooky Foundations

Pop the kettle on and grab your hook—Week 2 of the Sirdar Trick or Treat CAL has arrived, and things are starting to get interesting.

This week brought us four new squares to play with: Spooky Eyeball, Skullington, Jack O’Lantern, and Spooky Swirl. While the fun facial features and finishing touches are still to come, these base panels already hint at the spooky fun ahead.

Each of this weeks squares with Week 2's pattern.

Each square worked up smoothly, and I found myself really enjoying the rhythm of it all. There is something quite grounding about stitching along with others, knowing we are all at the same stage, watching our blankets take shape stitch by stitch.

Clear Instructions and Smooth Stitching

After a couple of small pattern quirks in Week 1, I am happy to report that Week 2 was wonderfully straightforward. Each square worked up with no fuss, and the instructions were easy to follow from start to finish. It made for a lovely few evenings of calm, rhythmic crochet—just what I needed.

The four designs each have their own little flair, even at this base stage. I especially enjoyed the Spooky Swirl—there is something so satisfying about watching those rounds spiral into place.

Weaving in the Ends and Looking Ahead

Once the squares were complete, it was time to weave in the ends. It felt a little early at first, since the spooky details have not been added yet, but I have a hunch this is all part of setting the stage. I am guessing next week we will be building on these panels, perhaps with additional rows or working across them as one piece.

Either way, it is exciting to see the shape of things to come. The project feels like it is really starting to come together now, and I am enjoying the slow reveal of the final design.

A Thought for the Week

One of my favourite things about crochet-alongs is the gentle structure they bring. Just a few small goals each week, a shared sense of progress, and the freedom to make it your own as you go. Since the pattern is released week by week, we are all stitching together at the same pace, which makes it feel all the more like a shared journey.

If you have not started yet but feel tempted, it is not too late to join in. We still have colour packs available in the shop, so you can dive in whenever you are ready and catch up at your own pace.

Let me know how your Week 2 went! Did you have a favourite square? Have you been weaving in your ends as you go, or leaving them for a big finishing session at the end? I would love to hear your thoughts and see your photos, drop them in the comments or tag me on Instagram.

Until next week, stay spooky and stitchy. May your yarn behave and your tension stay true. 🧶
