Tip of the Week: Second Sleeve Syndrome
Share
We all know the excitement of finishing the first sleeve of a jumper—only to realise we have to knit an entire second one. Enter Second Sleeve Syndrome—that feeling of reluctance (or even dread) when it’s time to cast on the second sleeve. But don’t worry, there are ways to beat it!
How to Avoid Second Sleeve Syndrome
🧶 Knit Both Sleeves at the Same Time - If you have a long enough circular needle or double-pointed needles, work both sleeves at once using two separate balls of yarn. This way, when you’re done, you’re done!
🧶 Treat It Like a New Project - Sometimes, simply changing your mindset helps. Think of the second sleeve as its own small project rather than a repeat of the first.
🧶 Take Good Notes - If you made any adjustments to the first sleeve (e.g., changed the length or shaping), write them down so the second sleeve matches perfectly.
🧶 Push Through the First Few Inches - Getting started is the hardest part. Once you get past the ribbing or first section, momentum will carry you through!
Don’t let Second Sleeve Syndrome get you down—embrace it, and soon you’ll have a beautifully finished jumper to show for your efforts!
