Stitching Through the Summer Slump: How to Stay Inspired

Stitching Through the Summer Slump: How to Stay Inspired

We all know the feeling. The sun’s out, schedules shift, and suddenly your favourite craft feels like a chore. But creativity isn’t seasonal, sometimes it just needs a little gentle encouragement. If you’ve hit a summer slump, here are a few simple ways to rekindle your making mojo.

1. Downsize Your Projects

Not every project needs to be a blanket or a cardigan. Try making something small and quick: a dishcloth, a granny square, or a soft scrubbie. The sense of completion might be just the boost you need. Try out our free dishcloth pattern here.

2. Create a Ritual

Set aside a short time each day to sit with your yarn. Light a candle, make a cuppa, and allow yourself to simply enjoy the motion. No goals. Just you and the stitches.

3. Try a New Technique

Whether it’s mosaic crochet, knitting cables, or embroidery embellishments, learning something new can re-spark your curiosity and joy.

4. Make It Social

Join a community project, start a summer CAL, or visit your local yarn shop for a chat. Sometimes just seeing what others are working on is enough to get you started again. Come and join our Knit and Natter group, sessions are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10am - 12 noon.

5. Celebrate Small Wins

Post your progress, however tiny. Finishing a single granny square or weaving in ends counts. Creativity grows in kindness, especially toward yourself.
